Statesmans Silhouette and sons shine at Mid-A Regionals

August 12, 2001, Quentin, PA - Spring Hollow Morgan's sport horse stallion, Statesmans Silhouette, continued to prove his prepotence as a performance horse sire at the 2001 Mid-Atlantic Morgan Regional Championship Horse Show, with four sons competing successfully during the four-days. Mid-A is one of the largest Morgan sport horse competitions in the United States, drawing some of the East Coast and Midwest's best Morgan sport horses. With six hunter divisions over two days, the deepest Morgan Sport Horse Suitability division in the country and two days of dressage from Intro through Grand Prix competed in two rings, the competition was fierce.

Spring Hollow Destrier (Statesmans Silhouette x Nodaway Tilli), Gail Bowden's 6 year-old bay Silhouette son, easily won the 1st level Dressage Championship, scoring a 69 percent in First Level Test 4 in sloppy conditions. Destrier had the highest first level scores of the competition under both "S" judge Margaret Freeman and "R" judge Heidi Berry. Gail and her gelding have had a very successful 2001 season with trainer Pam Thompson, winning the Training and First Level Championships at the Mason-Dixon Classic in April, followed in July by a Reserve Championship in the Heavenly Waters USDF Open show in Belair, Md.

Phenomenon (Statesmans Silhouette x Savenac's Centerfold), Jen Duga's 5 year-old black-bay Silhouette son, followed in his older brother's footsteps, taking the Training Level Championship with a 69 percent score in Training Level Test 4 under Heidi Berry. Nick-named "Buddy," Jen and her homebred gelding were competing in just their third competition under saddle. Their success in dressage followed Buddy taking the Reserve Grand Championship in Sport Horse Suitability Friday afternoon from the 30-horse field. Suitability is judged as a Sport Horse Breeding class, with horses shown on the triangle and judged by a dressage/sport horse judge. Success in suitability is not foreign to Buddy - he was Mid-A's Sport Horse Suitability Grand Champion as a 2 year-old, earning an 83 percent from "S" dressage judge Gretchen Verbonic.

Spring Hollow En Avant (Statesmans Silhouette x Caduceus Mercedes) and his rider Cynthia Brumbaugh dominated the Beginning Hunter Division, winning two of three classes on their way to the Championship. The 5 year-old liver chestnut gelding was returning from a serious injury that kept him out of work for more than three months earlier in the year, and Cynthia put him over his first fence the week before the show. Avant followed his hunter awards with excellent scores in Intro Dressage.

Laughter's Lord Wilson (Statesmans Silhouette x Otterbein May Mary) earned good scores in 2nd level dressage and had the third highest Sport Horse Suitability score of the competition. Cathy Echternach's 6 year-old black gelding is making a rapid advance in dressage - schooling upper level movements including clean flying changes.

Finally, in a hotly contested competition, Silhouette was Reserve Champion at 3rd level and above - just .25 out of the championship, which was won by Annette Bakic and her nice gelding, Fortress Initial. In his first competition after a busy breeding season, Silhouette had consistently good scores through the weekend in 3rd level from both judges - ranging from 60.782 to 64.366.
